ERKAN OGUR + METIN & KEMAL KAHRAMAN

Fiona Talkington, BBC Radio 3 Late Junction

ERKAN OGUR
"Erkan Ogur is one of those remarkable musicians who spins beguiling poetry out of his astonishing technique and passionate musicianship."

Fiona Talkington, BBC Radio 3 Late Junction

Erkan Oğur is one of Turkey’s most highly-respected musicians, famed for his hauntingly beautiful interpretations of ancient folk song, an acclaimed writer of film music (Eskiya and Yazi Tura), and collaborator with many musicians, including Djivan Gasparyan on the album Fuad. He is joined by İsmail Demircioğlu, an equally great musician from the Black Sea region, to perfom traditional songs from Anatolia accompanied on kopuz (small lute) and saz.

METIN & KEMAL KAHRAMAN
Brothers Metin & Kemal Kahraman and their six-piece group are legendary singer-songwriters of extraordinarily moving gentle protest music, sung in Zazaish and Kurdish-Turkish .

Zazaish is a Language, spoken around Dersim and in southeastern Turkey. They have collected and preserved endangered local musical traditions; their music uses these traditions as well as contemporary idiom, while their songs tell stories of life’s struggles and colour.
