APPROACH TO THE ORIGIN OF KEBAN LEAD-ZINC MINERALIZATIONS,
ELAZIĞ,TURKEY: A PRELIMINARY STUDY

ABSTRACT.
Mineralizations at Keban and its surroundings are generally observed
at the contacts of granitoids and epimeta-morphic rocks, in Nimri
formation and in Keban marbles. Lead-zinc mineralizations in this
region are previously interpreted asskarn type occurrences
associated with granitoids.

Dersim was a sanjak (district) in the northern
part of the vilayet of Kharput, adjacent to the
southwestern part of the vilayet of Erzerum.
Dersim province, Turkey was renamed Tunceli
province in 1936. It is just to the south of Erzincan province and just to the west of Bingol
province. Dersim was a "no-man's land of winding
valleys and tiny upland plateaus," populated by
rugged Armenian mountaineers.

THE TURKISH ARMY OFFICER AND GOVERNER ARE NOT ABOVE THE LAW
The Armenian Genocide was
carried out by the "Young Turk" government of the Ottoman Empire
in 1915-1916 (with subsidiaries to 1923). One and a half million
Armenians were killed, out of a total of two million Armenians
in the Ottoman Empire.
Most Armenians in America are children or
grandchildren of the survivors, although there
are still many survivors amongst us.
Armenians all over the world commemorate this great tragedy on
April 24, because it was on that day in 1915 when 600 Armenian
leaders, writers, thinkers and professionals in Constantinople were
rounded up, deported and killed. Also on that day in Constantinople,
5,000 of the poorest Armenians were butchered in the streets and in
their homes.

The Province Tunceli (DERSIM)
Is one of the mountainous parts of turkey. The hills
which most of them are more than 3000 meters high
are so unexceptional, that not only its people, but
also the foreigners are amazed about the alpine pas-
tures of this region. This landscape which is not ope-
ned for tourism is waiting to welcome the people.
The national park of Munzur Valleys is in the east
Anatolia and within the border of tunceli only eight
km far from the Centrum.

This mountainous
ecoregion is situated entirely in the eastern half of
Turkey. It hosts a remarkable floristic feature known as
the Anatolian Diagonal whose origins are not completely
understood. Many plant species in Turkey occur only to
the east or only to the west of this line. This is one
of the richest floristic areas of Anatolia. The upper
catchments of three major rivers are here, and
vulnerable wildlife species such as the otter and wild
goat inhabit the rugged landscape along with bear, fox
and wolves.

nationalists waged a bloody campaign against non-Turkish and
non-Muslim elements of the empire.
The First World War served as an excuse for the Young Turks, the
then Turkish gouvernement, to exterminate Armenians. It was a

Doctors Visit Tunceli and Prejudices Disappear
Doctors from a private hospital in Bursa traveled to the province of
Tunceli for the Day of Medicine on 14 March. They examined patients in
the districts and also gained a new perspective on Tunceli.

Tunceli is a province in eastern Turkey. It is associated closely with
Alevism, as it is the only province in Turkey which has an Alevi
majority, many of them speaking Zaza. However, people have not been able
to practice their beliefs freely, and many have migrated to Europe.

is destroyed by fire with great loss to Armenian property, goods, and
businesses.

Russia victorious in Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. Russo-Turkish
Treaty of San Stefano (February 19, 1878) provides for protection and
reforms for Armenians. Great Britain negotiates a secret Cyprus
Convention with Turkey (June 1978) to allow British to establish bases
on Cyprus and to administer Cyprus. In return, Britain insists
Russo-Turkish issues be decided, instead, by an international
conference. The resulting Congress of Berlin (June 1978) replaces the
protective measures of San Stefano under Article 16 with unsatisfactory
and ineffective provisions for Armenian people under Article 61, and
returns Garin (Erzerum) to Turkey. Russia retains Kars and Ardahan.

Under the ‘Munzur Project, the Turkish Republic plans to
built hydro electric central (hes) and eight dams of
which two are already completed in the Munzur Valley and
its environment in Tunceli (Dersim). The project on the
dams is about to be realised.

historical name for Dersim is that of Zazana, mentioned in B.C. 521
in the ol Persion inscription of Behistun. It
has menaged to survive over the course of the centuries under diferent forms such as Zavzan, Gozan/Guzana, Zozan, Zauzan, Zawazan
